A Friend Of The Folk
There is something people love, is that their leader is down to earth and not sitting 24/7 in a villa they would never own or even visit.
It's not a communist desire, it's just that the people want to see a leader that is not arrogant nor that thinks very high of himself.
However what i am saying is not fully right nor fully wrong and the reason is that some people love to see all the power and riches a leader has. Look at Russian tik toks showing the army and the magnificent Ura , or how Arab leaders are loved and portrayed .
Their people like to see their leader big and strong, at least some of them do.
Because perhaps in people's mind, if their leader is bad ass, so are they. And thus if their leader has a huge army and richesses it means that they are strong too. Like the Russian people aren't going to like Putin eating at McDonald's or any Russian fast food. Again, at least some won't like it.
Putin for instance plays it smart, he does both. There are countless of videos of Putin showing himself close to the people, for instance the interview with the blind girl that wants to be a journalist, even if a part of it was propaganda I cannot not feel happy for the girl to have met him and something that made her smile.
Same thing when leaders go to funerals or hospitals or orphanages. This makes them close enough to the people. There are different levels of course like for instance there's a difference between a leader that gets down to the poorest neighborhood and does a speech about making things better and meeting with the leader of a popular syndicate or saying nice things to a handicapped and paying for his hospitalization.
What I am trying to say is, even the biggest Tyrants had true fans. Because they wanted it, no tyrant was hated 100%by all the population. Some did good things, and it is those good things that make them stronger and by having a more loyal population. What's happening in Ukraine shows that even after all the propaganda that Putin has built , the morale of the soldiers isn't at it's highest , and this is for a reason , because the country that they are invading is no random country , it is a country where perhaps each soldier knows someone , whether it's family or friends.
Putin thought that this would unite them even more , but he failed , because we live in the 21st century , and not in the 20th even with all this censorship he failed.
so Showing images of being close to the people and powerful at the same time , or doing either one of them does not stop the probability that you might fail . this is because the information war as i said in a different post will not stop as long as humans are here. and thus it's a constant battle , Putin gave justifications to the war that are outright wrong and are not true , maybe most Russians are with the war , but many are against , and let's be honest , there is a difference between someone who sits all day on Twitter giving an opinion , and someone on the field that just killed a father , a child , a mother , a soul. and thus , Putin lost the information war , and it will backfire on him even more in the years to come , it will stain his political career.
Zelensky did the complete opposite , it is this war that will make him a savior , he is taking great risk in staying in Kiev , but this is a HUGE morale boost , Zelensky knows his public , this is a true power that he is investing a lot in , however the difference between people and politicians , is that politicians won't help if it's only for humanity or for emotions . Politicians search what's best for their country and sometimes also agendas . However the Ukrainian leader is not sweating in vain , he has a long battle to continue fighting , social media and the internet as a whole are now used as weapons of mass communication , and well the west is utilizing this to the fullest on the world's scale , while Russia censors and only spreads to the countries where saying a different view gets you caged or worse.
Russia will be stained for a very long time because she is being obliterated on the information level , NATO is very happy.
However if Russia wants to fight back , she'd let the people of the world forget this war. and the way to do that is with patience unironically .
Let's ask an uneasy question :
for how long mainstream medias will talk about Ukraine?
this is the true fight of Ukrainians , the war needs to be remembered every day.
It's repetition ; if you put a poster in my room , even if it has lots of details , if i see it for one minute straight every day , i will memorize it and will be able to see it without it being there.
Zelensky is fighting the battle of keeping people engaged , and he is using social medias , which are weapons of mass communication to many different audiences , if Ukraine falls , the resistance must everyday , every hour , remind the people of this earth the acts happening in their country.
because if the Russian boot won't let them talk and fight inside Ukraine , we can be certain that Russia cannot silence all of us outside of this independent sovereign country.
