i am no psychologist , but i am someone with experience , and i am glad that i have it , because I've learned from it , and it taught me not to do many things in this other dimension..
now if you guys spend a lot of time on discord , amino , reddit , or any social media for that matter , we can see that how problems can arise quite quickly , like would these problems even be there if the internet was not a thing?
careful now , i am not against the internet , but i am against how some people on the internet act . there are many types of people on the internet , the attention seeker , the troller , the guy who acts like a girl , the "i know politics" , the very edgy and cringy people , the lurkers , the 24/7 vc people , the anti-admins , the big ego admins and so much more.
The internet in a way shows us a world with no borders , but also , it shows us a world that is masked . all those people that i have cited , would they act the way they act on the internet , in the real world? my guess is probably not. you might find there people who are very shy in the real world , but big figures on the internet .
But it isn't masks what we are talking about today , it's drama . if you are reading this , you might have wanted to read it out of curiosity , but maybe also because it happened to you. the online world makes us problems like the real one ,but under different forms , that can be childish , and out of character , maybe because , we are a different person online , maybe because we have this power to be that. maybe because we can act the way we want the moment we open our phones , it makes us , more extreme in some ways .
like for instance , why does drama happen? where are it's roots?
its a person , it's people. it doesn't come from a bot , it comes from someone sitting behind a screen , or many people who throw oil to the fire. if we sat the same people in the room and opened the same subject would the drama be there ? would it be at the very least taken to the same seriousness?
why do people online sometimes act though , or weak , on purpose. why do they act like the opposite gender , why do they act like people they are not , why do they act in strange ways , as if they are straight out from an anime , a movie or a video game.
it's the beauty of a curse , a curse that is rarely seen , the mask . a mask to hide in , but also to act in . it is a grand theater . people act in those ways because what's the worst that can happen to them? getting banned from a certain app or community? do "Flamers" actually dare to say what they say in real life in front of the person? No. because they are not safe behind a screen , they are not safe behind an internet connection that they can just cut anytime , they do not have the anime profile picture with them nor the edgy quote that they added to it and thus they are not the person that flames anymore ,they are a different person. in another dimension.
so the online world let's us escalate problems , and make them because we like to feel doing something adventurous , we like stories , who doesn't like to spill some tea? the drama in the online world is the result of the boredom we feel in the real world. but instead of trying it in the real world and actually get fired or slapped . we can do it in the online world . we can act , we can grow , we can become people different then what we are really. we become a person that we want to be , or hell , persons.
its a game to kill boredom and to live a story . even if you are not after this particularly , you do it , you go in the problem way easier online then in the real world because you are safe , for now. You can make a name for yourself ,you can lead , you have a relationship , you can become the enemy of someone , you can start and end a conflict , something that you may never do in a normal "boring life" , the online world gives us a place to act and to play.
its a dream and it's a playground. but a dream can become a nightmare , and a playground can become a battlefield.
boredom leads people to find meaning in their lives. sometimes , if this meaning isn't found , suicide might be the answer for them (which is obviously not the right sensible answer). there are many answers to kill boredom , but a grand majority , goes to the online world , to a community , a video game , an app .
so essentially , boredom and lack of meaning are what can cause problems . its not that people on the internet think of that and they say okay i will do problems then , no of course not. but it's what i think their reaction would be , when you just purely bored , or cannot withstand a different opinion , or whatever.
i personally believe , there is always a room to stop this drama if you are directly involved in it , don't let people step on you of course not , but I've learned that , finding a purpose does not necessarily involve other people , sometimes , you don't need critics , praises , sometimes you just need to be happy , sometimes you just need to trust and love the people right in front of you.
Don't get me wrong , some friendships can happen behind a screen , some people might only have friends online. i am not criticizing them obviously. friendship doesn't have a rule where it says that it needs to be in the real world , or in any world for that matter . But a word of advice would be , know who your friends really are. Notice on what you guys talk about , is it just a game that connects you? is it just a community? or do you talk about everything and nothing and enjoy their company? maybe the answers might hurt , and in no way i am saying to dump certain people. But , toxic people in your life , in the virtual world or not , should always stay away , remember this , for it is important for you. Boredom can render people evil , because boredom searches for meaning and this meaning can lead to hurt.
so find out your meaning , we all have one. family , friends , money , happiness , love , yourself , dream , leadership , charity , freedom , heroic , and more.
